How Long Does It Take To Get Custom Windows?

It can take anywhere from eight to 20 weeks, depending on the manufacturer, from the time you place your order until your windows arrive (this can vary depending on the time of year and type of windows you order as well).

On installation day, the time it takes to complete your project depends on the type and number of windows you’re installing. In general, you can expect the team to spend about 30 minutes on each window, removing the old one and putting the new one in its place.

The length of time required for installation also depends on whether you’re simply having the windows replaced or also getting historic window sash replacement.

For residential projects, the entire job can usually be finished in a single day. Larger commercial projects take longer.

Our Historic Replacement Windows

With different historic replacement windows from top manufacturers like Norwood, Weather Shield, and Parrett, the windows we offer are durable, efficient, and operate reliably for years and years.

When it comes to the style of the window, you won’t be limited in your choice.

We offer windows to meet every need, including:

  • Historic double-hung windows: These are ideal if you’re replacing your window for cleaning and maintenance purposes. The convenient sash design allows for easy removal and cleaning.
  • Historic picture windows: Also called fixed-pane windows, these can’t be opened. If aesthetics is your main priority, picture windows are great. Available in different shapes and sizes, these windows offer spectacular views.
  • Historic bay windows: In addition to offering amazing views, bay windows can add to your home, both aesthetically and financially. If you plan on moving in the near future, keep in mind that bay windows can increase your home’s resale value.
  • Historic casement windows: Due to their airtight sealing created by the sash and frame, these windows diminish air leakage and are great for improving the energy efficiency of your historic home.
  • Historic awning windows: These replacement windows are also energy-efficient and provide superior ventilation.
  • Historic transom windows: Transom windows go above doorways and can enhance the architecture of your historic home. They add unique detail and since they let in lots of sunlight, they’re ideal if your home feels dark all the time.
  • Historic bow windows: If you want a unique look for your home, you can choose bow windows, which are four or more windows angled to create a curved shape (like bay windows). They provide plenty of natural light and can add value to any home.

When it comes to historic window replacement, we’ll guide you every step of the way.

Historic Window FAQs

Q: Can I replace my historic windows or do they need to be restored?

A: It depends on the condition of the window and local guidelines. Some historic districts require repair over replacement, while others allow replacement as long as the new window matches the original style. The window contractors at Quality Window and Door can inspect your windows and advise you based on what’s allowed in your area.

Q: Are there energy-efficient options that still look historically accurate?

A: Absolutely! Many manufacturers offer historic-style replacement windows with energy-efficient features like insulated glass, low-E coatings, and weatherstripping. These windows maintain the home’s original appearance while improving comfort and reducing energy costs.

Q: Do I need approval to replace windows in a historic home?

A: If you live in a designated historic district or your home is listed on a historic registry, you may need approval from a local preservation board. Quality Window and Door’s window contractors can help guide you through the process and ensure your installation meets all requirements.

Q: Will replacing my historic windows hurt the value of my home?

A: Not if it’s done correctly. Using historically appropriate materials and styles can maintain—or even increase—your home’s value. Many buyers appreciate improved efficiency and durability without losing the home’s original charm.

Q: Can modern windows match the look of original historic windows?

A: Absolutely. Custom-built windows can replicate details such as grille patterns, wood species, hardware styles, and sash proportions. This ensures your replacements blend seamlessly with the home’s architecture. Quality Window and Door offers custom windows to make sure they match your home’s aesthetic, style, and historic value!
