Do My New Windows Qualify for the Federal Energy Efficiency Tax Credits?

If you installed new or replacement windows in your home in the last year, you may qualify for a tax credit in 2013. The previously-expired energy efficiency tax credit was re-established as of January 2, 2013 as a part of the legislation that helped us avoid the fiscal cliff. The tax credit, known as the 25C tax credit, provides up to $500 in federal tax credits for energy-efficient windows.

This tax credit is retroactive, meaning you can qualify for it even if you had your windows installed in 2012 when the energy-efficient tax credit was expired.

The tax credit is for 10 percent of the materials portion of your order, up to $500. It is important to note, however, that if you have already taken advantage of the $500 cap on energy-efficient improvements since 2006, you are NOT eligible to receive more.

Qualifying For the Energy Efficiency Tax Credit

If you are unsure whether you qualify for the energy efficiency tax credit, or want to make sure your future window or door purchase qualifies, read the requirements below:

  • All ENERGY STAR qualified windows and doors.
  • Credit of 10 percent up to $ 200 on windows.
  • Credit of 10 percent up to $ 500 on doors.
  • Credit of 10 percent up to $ 500 on insulation.
  • Installation labor costs NOT eligible.
  • Total credit cannot exceed $ 500.
  • Lifetime $ 500 tax credit limit; 2006 – 2012.

If you have additional questions about the Federal Energy Tax Credit, please feel free to call us or contact us through the contact form on the right.

The tax credit is only available on window installations completed before Dec. 31st, 2013, so contact us today to take advantage of this incentive before it expires!
